Pollen

Combinación de pole de diferentes plantas, secrecións das abellas e néctar

Bee pollen is a combination of pollen from different plants, bee secretions and nectar. It is considered a nutritional treasure due to its active components that have important medicinal and health properties.

It contains bioactive components including proteins, amino acids, lipids, carbohydrates, minerals, vitamins and polyphenols, which improve different body functions and offer protection against many diseases.

Scientific studies support its effectiveness in preventing heart damage, improving the digestion and absorption of food, and helping to control diabetes, with antioxidant properties that reduce inflammation.

Bee colonies collect pollen from a large number of species of flowering plants, to achieve the range of proteins and vitamins they need. The result is a multicolored pollen according to the plants they collect. Pollen with different colors is considered to be better for human consumption than that with just one colour.

The medical use of pollen in public health is documented for the first time in the hieroglyphs of Egyptian culture and later appears in Arab and Jewish texts.

Maimonides (1135-1204) recommended its use as an astringent. Ibn the Beithar, an apothecary, botanist and essayist, described its use as an aphrodisiac at the beginning of the 13th century, while highlighting its benefits for the digestive system and the heart.

At O Espírito da colmea pollen is collected at the time when chestnuts are flowering. At this time hives have a surplus of this product and thus it doesn’t negatively affect the survival of the colonies. That is why our pollen production is not massive. Each season the amount we collect changes, taking into account the climate of that year in order to preserve the health of our apiaries.

Our pollen is composed mainly of blackberry (Rubus ulmifolius), vibrant yellow chestnut (Castanea sativa), blue borage (Borago officinalis) and other wild flowers that complete the yellow ranges.

We dry it at low temperatures to make sure we preserve its properties. It has no additives and a minimal handling process to ensure that a product of excellent quality and purity reaches the consumer.
